This post is inspired by the Physical dimension of wellness.
Physical wellness is about moving. Every system of your body has structures and functions that support movement. Exercising is a great way to enhance your health and make you physically fit at the same time. Physical wellness is the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life so that you are able to move about your day free of undue fatigue or physical stress.
“All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself.” - Chuck Close
What if I told you there is a secret activity that can strengthen your mood, confidence, memory, and creativity? When I was in my early 20’s, I had gained a lot of weight after having my son. I felt sluggish and sad. However, one day, I made the promise to myself that I was going to start eating better and exercising. So, I got out my headphones and went for a long walk. What I realized upon my return was that my mood and desire to change my life looked more promising. Before then, I had never connected my physical activity with mood enhancement.
“Self confidence is a super power. Once you start to believe in yourself, magic starts happening.” - Unknown
Once I practiced something physical every day, I noticed some remarkable changes. My mood swings disappeared, and my confidence levels were increasing. I recall getting ready to sit for an exam and feeling sharp and clear-headed. What I learned during this time is that exercise generally enhances the ability to remember things by raising the level of oxygen flow to the brain and supporting higher thinking. In fact, a vigorous workout before taking an exam can improve test scores, memory, and alertness.
Try it out for yourself! Next time you have to give a speech, take an exam, or even have a difficult conversation, go for a walk, jog or even something with a higher impact. Watch the transformation on your emotions! You’re welcome in advance. 😊
