This recipe is inspired by the Physical dimension of wellness.
Physical wellness is about moving. Every system of your body has structures and functions that support movement. Exercising is a great way to enhance your health and make you physically fit at the same time. Physical wellness is the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life so that you are able to move about your day free of undue fatigue or physical stress.
In our quest to remain physically fit, we have come to accept that in order to be fit, we must be miserable. But what if we have been doing it wrong all along?
For years I was an avid jogger, running at least 4 to 6 miles daily. I happened to love running, but it’s not for everyone. In fact, it can be a tough practice for most people. Unfortunately for me, it was short lived. Running really took a toll on my feet, and now I suffer from neuropathy. I was extremely disappointed as running had changed my life both physically and emotionally. (Yes, exercise does increase your mood and positivity just like the experts have been telling us for decades!)
“Don't expect to see a change if you don’t make one.”
As the years progressed, I began to wonder if I was viewing exercise and physical fitness all wrong. I realized that you should mix up your workouts to avoid taxing your body by doing the same thing all the time and using the same muscles. Workouts that use the same subset of muscles continuously can actually be a detriment to your body!
Research has shown that when we change up our workouts, we enlist different muscle groups and challenge our bodies in fresh ways. So, I have learned to change up my workouts, taking long walks, swimming, bicycling, Cybex training, weight lifting, and intermittently practicing yoga.
The best part is, I am so much happier now that I have added all kinds of activity into my life.
“Exercise not only changes your body. It changes your mind, your attitude, and your mood.”
In general, people who take the time to exercise daily tend to be happier. When you make a routine out of it, much like brushing your teeth, it becomes automatic and even enjoyable. Without a doubt, exercise dramatically promotes our well being, so give it try. You might even like it!
Recipe of the Day: Honey Garlic Chicken
This recipe is one my husband would love for me to make daily… Decadent and delicious!
INGREDIENTS
3-4 Chicken Breasts
2-3 Tbs Flour
4.5 Tbs Butter
5-6 Cloves of Garlic
3 Tbs Honey
1 Tbs Soy Sauce
1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
INSTRUCTIONS
Score chicken. Using a sharp knife, make parallel shallow cuts through the chicken but not all the way through. (You will only do this on one side of the breast.) Make the cuts 1/8 inch deep and ½ to 1 inch apart. Rotate the chicken 45 degrees to make a second set of cuts, resulting in small diamond-shaped cuts across the surface.
Place flour on a large plate or surface and lightly flour each side of chicken breast.
Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in pan and fry the chicken breasts for 2-3 minutes on each side.
While chicken is frying, place remaining butter in the middle of the pan in between the chicken breasts. Once melted, add the garlic to the middle of the pan (not on top of the chicken) along with the honey, apple cider vinegar and soy sauce. Spoon the sauce over each breasts a few times until chicken is fully cooked.
Best served over jasmine rice.
